“Tens of thousands of Mainers were experiencing food insecurity before coronavirus struck. Advocates said in the past year, the pandemic has made the situation worse.
‘Preble Street has nearly doubled the amount of meals we are providing through our emergency food programs, and in fact last year, we distributed over a million meals. A boost in SNAP benefits is needed. Food pantries and soup kitchens are emergency services; they’re not meant to be long-term solutions,” Preble Street Advocacy Director Joann Bautista said.”
