Volunteers needed! Summer volunteer opportunities

Preble Street has many rewarding and fun volunteer opportunities that are great for individuals, families, and even groups!

Whether chopping veggies and helping to prepare meals at Preble Street’s Food Security Hub or organizing donations at the Receiving Center, there is a way for everyone to get involved and make a direct impact in the lives of vulnerable community members.

If you’re a college or high school student, volunteering at Preble Street is great way to meet any service hour requirements. Students can receive recommendation letters for college or confirmation letters for service hours, when they complete their volunteer commitments.

Volunteering at Preble Street is also a great way to meet new people and engage with community members. Many passionate, driven, and interesting people work and volunteer at Preble Street. Preble Street staff come from many different professional and personal backgrounds, with extensive experience in social work, policy and advocacy work, restaurant work, and more.

Most importantly, volunteering with Preble Street can have a direct and powerful impact on someone’s life. For example, Preble Street’s Food Security Hub is a model for fighting hunger and food security in Maine and the country. It produces roughly 2,000 meals daily to feed food insecure people in Cumberland County and is undergoing construction to expand capacity to 10,000 meals daily! The work done there has a direct and immediate impact on the lives of people who don’t have consistent access to healthy or nutritious food.
